Journalists FAQ - don't forget
to read the Guidelines
What kind of things can I ask for?
Pretty much anything, within reason. The content providers -
press officers, public relations and marketing professionals
and various other experts - have made themselves available to
help with your research. Ask for quotes on a given subject,
or leads relating to a hot news topic, photographs tying in
with a pop culture event - the possibilities are unlimited.
Am I going to get flooded with suggestions and offers of
help I can't use?
No, because not only can you choose how content providers contact
you, always remember that these people are professionals, they
have jobs to do! Unless they think there's a good chance of
you both working together they probably won't get in touch at
all. If you want to consider offers of help at your leisure
ask content providers to contact you via email. If you need
something in a hurry, why not give your publication's phone/fax
number? Users who want to keep absolute total control over the
responses can even establish a dedicated free email account
to filter offers of content.
Can I simply ask for free things for review? Or can
I just send out a 'send me news ideas' request?
You can, but in these cases we ask journalists to expand on
where their material is being printed. Basically, the more general
the request, the more information we would like to see about
who has commissioned them in the past. We don't even need to
know exact names - stating that material has been printed by
four major UK computer magazines in the past six months, for
example, would be enough info.

I've registered as a content provider - now how do I send
my pitches to journalists?
Click on the PITCH!
link you'll find at the top right of most pages. Once you've
entered your username and password you'll reach the submission
page. Consider bookmarking that page for future reference.
Can I submit a list of my clients and ask journalists to
contact me if any of them are of interest?
We're afraid not. Content providers can submit pitches regarding
specific clients and what they have to offer. They can even
submit these more than once - but within reason! We will filter
out any submissions which come in too often. And besides, the
best way to make the most of QuoteMark.com is to sell journalists
on the idea that your content or potential contribution is extra
special - they are far more likely to respond to offers that
have resulted from a little creative brainstorming.
How soon will my pitch go out to journalists?
A round-up of pitches will be issued once a week, but particularly
time-sensitive pitches (and journalist's requests for content)
may be issued as and when they are filed.
